Somehow my summers were a blast at the same time boring. The countless hours watching TV. Sleeping in late. Staying up late. I look back at all that time and I could say it was time well wasted... but I hate wasting time. Honestly animals don't feel music the way we do but they are stimulated by it in ways we are. "If you could send a message into space thru a song what song would you send?" That's the approach we took for this episode of 'the Opus'. The idea is not new. In fact in the documentary 'The Heart Is A Drum Machine' we learn how a golden record of sounds and music from Earth was sent with the Voyager spacecraft. It's a noble thought, but seriously who did they expect would listen. So for this episode I ask that you listen to some song selections that I would send into space (or aliens if believe that sort of thing). Plus we feature a song from 'Moon & Sun'. Rocky. Saturday Night Fever. 9 to 5? Ok so not all movies have great theme songs. But you have to admit that there are many movies with great stories that have great theme songs to them. I happen to think Sabotage from the Beastie Boys is a good song for me, yet I don't think it represents the whole theme to my life. You may be the victim of piracy. Who are we kidding? There are a number of us (if not all of us) that have participated in one form or another of piracy. I hate to admit it but I've used Limewire once or thrice. Yet I believe once we realize the harm we are causing by partaking in illegal downloads we can then start the healing process. So I did something totally different for this episode of the Opus. I tried to interview random people (mainly at the local Starbucks) on their thoughts of the weather and their mood in music. To my surprise, not many were willing to take my offer with the exception of one gentleman. Listen to the latest episode of the Opus as we ask: Does weather have an effect on the choice of music we listen to? Plus I highlight a GREAT song from a hip hop duo from Spain: VisionespanoramiK. Okay Armando Avila... you asked for this one. On this latest episode of the Opus we talk about the effect music has on students (or anyone for that matter) while studying. Does listening to music help or hurt while studying on a specific subject? Do you prepare for a final while listening to music? There are studies, articles, and blogs on the matter. But why bother reading those boring sites when you can listen to the Opus and get an accurate, truthful, yet biased answer. Plus we highlight a great song from a 'Fresh' French band.
